Week #21

HELLO!!!

Happy Birthday today to Scott and to Angie this week and also to Brittany!!!! Birthday week!!! Also Happy April Fool's day! It has been such a great week!!! So so many miracles and we are just busy busy!! Sister Owens is incredible and I am so blessed to have her as my companion. She seriously works so hard and she loves the work and we just got transfer calls and guess what?! We are both staying in Santee YSA!!! I am so happy!!!! I could stay here my whole mission it is just the most amazing area and I love the work here. The branch has really united this week with the passing of our dear friend Sean. He is so missed, but we know the plan is real and that God gets to judge. We lost 6 sisters at the Mormon Battalion today! Weird!! Watch out for them there in Idaho and Utah they are great! We have dropped every single one of our investigators and it has just felt right! We have already added 3 this week with plans to add a lot more! We know this is needed and that those we dropped will come back at some point, but we have faith this is what is right. There has been so many people from Idaho because of Spring Break so I am not even going to begin to name them but it was so much fun to make connections. I took quite a few pictures I will try to send them. There was a cool miracle on the street this week. We had an appointment scheduled and it got cancelled so we tried to contact a potential investigator and on the street we started talking to a guy named David. He asked where we were from and Sister Owens said Alaska and I said Idaho. He said "Oh cool I want to move to Idaho and get away from California people, I love it there, I am hoping to be moving to Pocatello soon!" Haha so crazy! I told him I was from there and we stared talking about everything and he was so thankful I was "from the country" haha! He said that he had been hoping for something like this because he said the only thing holding him back from moving is not knowing anyone there. The missionaries are going to start teaching him too!! He agreed to meet and this man will be baptized I know it!! On Sunday we had 6 non members show up! 3 of our investigators and 3 that people had brought, we like to call them future members :) It was just so great!! They stayed for all three meetings and it was a miracle. We have 3 baptisms planned for April from our new investigators last week. Haily, another  David and Kim oh and Chelsey so I guess 4!! Miracles!! Seriously, I still feel so inadequate to be a missionary, but I know that we are receiving so many people to teach because of our obedience. Also we had a mission president's fireside on Sunday night. Sister sanchez and I sang together at it! It was so great to sing again, I have missed that. People kept telling me that I sing with a southern twang hahaha!!! I was not ashamed of that haha! Yesterday after our street contact we went to the institute and right when we walked in a guy walked in names Justin. He was a guy we had planned to teach last week, but he cancelled. It was a miracle because we had that exact time open for him. Even President Morgan in our mission presidency came with us to our lesson, we get to work with president morgan all of the time because he is the institute director! The lesson was amazing and we are planning to meet with him too. We had another investigator come in for her lesson and she walked in and said " Sisters I am done with this so here is your book of mormon and I have to go now." We tried to follow the Spirit and calm her down and she was just furious because " How dare [we] give her a book that was written by a man in this day to learn from and ask her to pray about it ..." We kindly asked if we could have a prayer with her and answer some of her questions. She relunctently agreed and the spirit came into the room. We talked about her questions and helped her to see some of the misconceptions she had been told. It was a miracle and we are seeing her again tomorrow! Satan is smart, but the Lord is wiser and will help us to guide these people to Him. I truly love my mission. I wake up every day so excited and Sister Owens does too! It is so great to be working together in unity. She teaches me a lot and we get to continue to teach each other while we teach others. Wow we are so lucky! Keep me  updated and know I love you all!!! Keep the work progressing in Idaho and Wyoming and Mexico!! You are the best family ever!!!

Love,

Sister McKee:)

Week #20

Hello My amazing Family!!

This week has been great of course, but definitely the hardest week of my mission so far. Thursday morning we got a call from our Branch mission leader, Buddy, and he informed us that a member of our branch took his life the night before. His name is Sean Birch and I was very close to him. This guy is absolutely one of the sweetest guys in the whole world. I always told him he reminded me of home because he would wear his cowboy boots to church every Sunday. He would randomly just say, "Hey Sister McKee... You are Great!" And always made you feel like you were the most important person in the world. He would bring his future member friends to church all of the time. A counselor in our Mission Presidency President Morgan, who is the Institute Director at Grossmont where we serve, came and spoke to our branch on Sunday. There were over 60 YSA's in attendance and each one had loved Sean so much. There was not one dry eye in the audience. He spoke to us about faith and hope and the knowledge that we will see Sean again and that only God is the judge. Sean could not have been in his right mind and God knows him. It was beautiful. Afterward we had a luncheon to remember him and passed around a notebook. It was a sacred, solemn day and we are so grateful to have the Plan of Salvation and the knowledge that it will all be made right. And now we get to choose from this to act for good and help others and be that positive influence in their lives. Miracles are happening from that already. Sunday Sean's friend Hailey who had been coming to activities with Sean, came to church and sat with us. We are meeting with her tonight and she expressed her desire to join the church. Amazing. We have also seen so many other miracles. Last week we went out to eat with some sisters and our waitress got so excited when she saw us and kept saying "Hi! I am Christian too!!"  And got her whole staff to come and say hi to us because we were Christian. Anyway she came back at the end and we asked for the check and she started crying and said "Ladies, I have got it covered, I need these blessings and my only hope is that my daughters will grow up to have the light that you 4 have. So all you can do for me is pray for that and keep bringing your light to others." We gave her a Book of Mormon and talked to her about that light she saw. It was amazing. So many miracles. A crazy thing this week is that we have 7 investigators and we are passing off 6 this week to other areas!! They are all a street out of our boundaries in different areas and I am not exaggerating! It was so funny, but we love that we get to hasten the work in that way. However miracles come when we are obedient! We have already added 3 new investigators this week and they are solid!! We love them all and are excited to teach about this amazing gospel. Sister Owens and I are doing great. She is a funny girl and loves the work. She laughs all the time, but is willing to work! We are praying we stay together because transfers are already next week! Can you believe that?! I have a feeling that I will have many connections this week where it is spring break. It is still weird to me! The Cotants and Durrants from Chubbuck came this week and it was great to chat with them. Also the Wrestling coach at highland who knows the Bells very well ask you can imagine came through too! The Waddells from Corona are in the McDermotts ward and they came through twice. Very nice families! I am loving the work. Hard weeks teach us a lot because we get to learn from trials and with our eternal perspective keep pressing forward. You would all be happy to know that Sister Owens and I won the prize for Car inspections this transfer! All those car inspections with Elder Packer really paid off:) I knew exactly what they were looking for:) Thank you Elder Packer! I miss them! I often see Tennessee license plates and just smile! I am so thankful for my whole experience in Tennessee that has shaped me to be the missionary I am now. I am excited to meet the sisters that knew Angelee at the MTC! They will have amazing trainers! There are so many miracles and amazing things happening here in California. I never want to leave Santee! I now know what Elder Adams was talking about when he said Paducah is the promised land, except I am sorry to say that he has never served in the Santee YSA Branch and That is truly the promised land:) haha! Tell all those elders hi from me! I sure miss all of them! Oh and I am supposed to tell you to add yourselfs on the Santee YSA facebook page and Mormon Battalion FB Page because there are some pictures. I love you all! Keep being the best family in the world. I look up to you a lot! Brayden, don't drive into your mom haha! JK:) I know you are a great driver!!!  I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!!! Keep the Birch family in your prayers and the Santee YSA Branch!

Week #19: San Diego

HELLO!!!!!

Happy Birthday to Peter!!!! Wahoo! Birthdays are so fun! What an amazing and busy week! Santee is on fire right now and we are seeing more and more miracles each and every day. I am so excited for everything that is happening at home! 2 baby girls and a baby boy when I get home wow  that is crazy!! Also Sounds like Destini had an exciting drive last week!:) REminds me  of when Angelee and I ran into the Garage when we were little! That is scary!! Tell Desi she is not alone! But I cannot help but laugh haha!   This week has been another week full of connections, I will add some pictures in the end!   We went on exchanges last week and I went Spanish speaking for a day! I absolutely loved it and I really am doing a lot better speaking it! I wish I had study time haha! Just kidding I know there is a reason I was called english and I love english work! It is nice to have both languages where there are so many hispanics though! Our assistant ward mission leader Brent told us about his friend that he met at school and wanted us to come meet her. We met her last week and we started teaching her. She is an amazing girl. She was in foster homes her entire life and finally someone wanted to adopt her and her brothers and then a while after they decided they just wanted her brothers. So back to foster homes she was finally adopted again and she said as soon as she turned 18 she was basically dropped from the family. It is crazy too because she is one of the nicest, most humble people that we have met. She says she just feels alone. She loved the message of the Restoration and she is currently reading and praying. She said she would get baptized when she knows it is true. Amazing girl. We have to pass off about 5 people this week that are just outside our area:( it will be hard, but we know that miracles happen with exact obedience! We have been street contacting like crazy and we send referrals off to other people every day. This week we actually ran into some YSA's on the street though and they are awesome! Dean and Derek, we are going to start teaching them this week. Another miracle with Amber. She refused to live the word of wisdom last week and said she wouldnt even try. Well we came back this week and she and she had a complete new mindset and we set up a schedule for her to give up her drugs, cigarettes and wine and she is on board!! She will be baptized in April as she stays on this track! We had temple shift last week and there was a man there names  Alesandro, we ended up teaching him the REstoration and the Plan of Salvation and he loved it! Sunday at the Battalion we had a 22 year old boy named Eduardo come inside. He said he would love to take a tour and as I got to talking with him he said that he drove past, saw the words Jesus Christ and knew he needed to come inside. He said " An unexplainable feeling told me that this is where I needed to be." I was able to give his tour and talk to him after, he has been part of a gang his whole life and he is ready to change and he felt something. Before I even brought up the idea of missionaries coming over he said, "Sister McKee, do you guys like teach people about your church? I think I would like to learn more about it and join." So the elders in the other YSA stake is starting to teach him MIRACLES! I feel like my mission is seriously going by so fast and it is really insane. Sister Owens is almost halfway done with her training! She is doing awesome! She is really training me haha she is such a sweet girl, crazy and fun! So we have a blast and work Very hard! Being at the Battalion is truly a test because we have the faith that our areas are watched over while we cannot be there half the time. We have so much work in Santee. We are hoping to get more missionaries in the branch! It will be a ward soon! We have almost 60 regularly attending now!!! YEY! Candice is doing so great too she is getting her temple recommend soon which is super exciting! We have Zone Conference again this week! Can you believe that I have been here long enough to have 2 Zone Conferences?! Crazy life! Well tell everyone that I love them so much! I get asked all the time about the Parrish family here when they know I am from Pocatello, I hope they are doing better and if you see them tell them I pray for them every day. I would love to write Jensen, could someone get me her email address?? She is a great friend of mine. Sounds like Angie is doing good at the MTC and having fun! That is good, mission is all about balance right dad? haha:) When is Aubs Jr. Miss? Will you record it para mi?? Gracias! Tell Kiki and Des to email me! I miss them! I love you all! Michelle, Mike, Jared, Scott and Steven and everyone!!! I would write everyones name, but that would start to be a whole other email haha! I just have the best family in the world! Thank you for being faithful and true so it makes it that much easier for me! I would love to see pictures of everyone too! Tell Britt and Jared thanks for the cute valentines card I absolutely loved it!!

Well, I better get going but know that I know this church is true and the atonement is real. He died not just for some of us, but for all of us and now we get to choose if we are going to use it and come back to our Heavenly Father or not. Keep Smiling always and Pray Daily- Read you Book of Mormon daily ( Even if it is just a verse) and go to church!!

I LOVE YOU!!

Sister McKee:)

Week #18: MB

Hey Family!!

This week was such a great week, very eventful! We are so busy it is insane and we do not have enough time in our area right now, it is a good problem and crazy one! We love it though, it is the best work in the world to be a missionary and I cannot believe it is MArch! I hope Steven and Rachel had a fantastic birthday!! I saw the Ricks this week in Old Town, it was great to see them and weird as it always is to see people from a different life haha! Kevin and Emily Johnson also came this week with their kids, that was crazy and I was not expecting to see them! I sent a picture of us all! I love my mission. Sister Owens is doing so great! She could already train she is just loving life and really trying hard to be better every day which is a huge example for me. This week we went out to eat and there was a lady who was sitting by herself so we started talking to her and she was so nice and talked to us about her church etc.. We explained who we were and asked if she would like to learn more, she kindly said, " I have my own church but thank you have a nice day." We gave her a mormon.org card and offered a Book of Mormon that she declined. We went outside and sat down and about 10 minutes later she walked outside and said, " Hey I have a question for you.. Why do mormons dress so nice?" We started talking about everything after that! We read from the Book of Mormon and she loved the scripture and said, "Well I guess you are right, I better take this book." She was so nice and loved it and it was just a huge testimony of how people do not realize they are prepared so we get to help them! There were so many other amazing miracles with street contacts this week. Something that I love about being in a YSA branch is that the majority of our street contacts are not for us, but it is a way we get to help others receive people and that is so awesome. I love it! Matt our investigator that dropped us came to church on Sunday and wants to start meeting again! He is on fire now and he will be baptized soon I know it. I love Santee! Another miracle is that I lost my wallet last week when we were eating with a member at a restaurant. I had been talking to the owner about the church and ended up leaving it there when I left. I had no idea where it had been left and I just felt awful because I could not focus on that at all during our busy week and just kept praying for help to find my wallet. I kept feeling like I should not call anyone for a new card so I didn't and just kept doing work. I got a call yesterday from a girl in my branch and she said that her next door neighbor came outside and asked her if she knew me and showed her my license! It was a miracle! I talked to the owner later and he said that he kept feeling something tell him to talk to him neighbor and so he did it. It was amazing that I was able to testify to him that it was the holy ghost that told him to do that and I feel so blessed to have met him. He will be baptized one day! Miracles are everywhere and I wish I had more time to talk about all of them just know that the work is progressing here in California! Sounds like life is crazy for all of you too! That is awesome! Oh and also Sarah got baptized on Saturday! It was such a great baptism! She was so prepared and her baptism was packed! Well I better go but know that I love you all so much! Keep smiling and keep testifying of the truths that you know!!

Thank you for being a great family!

Love:

Sister McKee:)

PS: Sister Baker from Pocatello and her trainer Sister Dunaway  got into an accident on the interstate yesterday, they are doing okay but the car was totaled and mentally I think it has been hard on them! Keep them in your prayers! Thank you!! Love you all! Here are some pictures!

Week #17: 4 months down, 14 to go!

Hello Family!

I hope Mike had a good birthday and Happy Birthday this week to Rachel and Steven!! I still think that it is cute you have birthdays so close together and you are married.. :) That is convenient! You can always just celebrate on the 9th haha! Just kidding. But have a great week and do something fun!! Sounds like Charlie's baptism went awesome! Aubs had a stake talk! Whoa that is awesome. Very exciting I am sure you were able to help so many people with that talk! It sounds like the Parrish's funeral went well. That would have been overwhelming to see those four amazing people in caskets, but it sounds like Jensen and Ian are doing well. They are such great examples. Please tell them I love them so much and pray for them often. When people find out I am from Pocatello they ask about it and I can hardly talk about it, it is hard to comprehend, but I am so thankful we have this amazing truth that they will see their family again.

We have seen so many miracles this week. There is a less active named Chris that we have tried to see since I first got to Santee. We have left a sticky note there almost every week since I got here. Well we went again last weekend and passed a guy on the way. We started talking to him and he said "I am not interested and I am busy so no." Well.. after that we decided to go stop by and grab something to eat and Sister Owens and I could not decide where to go and then we agreed on a place, walked in and there was that guy sitting down eating. We started talking to him and said, " Hey we just saw you! Can we come sit by you?" He said we could and we soon found out that this guy was the less active Chris that we had been trying to find for forever! It was such a miracle. We had a lesson while we ate with him and we were able to address his concerns and set up a return appointment. He is going to start attending the branch and he is excited. Such a miracle! Another miracle was last night. We had an appointment at 7 and FHE is at 7. Well the guy who we had an appointment with texted us and let us know he would not be home for about 30 minutes so we went to FHE for the first few minutes and introduced some less actives to the branch. Well, as we were about to leave for our appointment there was a guy outside in the parking lot, we went and talked to him and got to know him. We told him that Family Home Evening was going on inside and that he was welcome. He said he would come, we set up an appointment for tomorrow and we left, leaving him with our branch to get to our appointment. We got a call later that night from our Branch president's wife and she was just going on and on about how amazing this guy was and how well he got a long with everyone and loved the spirit there. He is going to be super solid. WE are excited. Sunday we were able to watch the CES fireside with people we brought that was from BYU-Idaho. It was an amazing fireside and Candice, who just got baptized came. The fireside was from BYU-IDaho and it was fun to see some friends on the screen, but what was even more awesome was the amazing message as it was on the Holy Ghost and Candice had just been confirmed that day. She called us that night with excitement because she said that she was afraid she would not feel the spirit and that tonight she could feel it so strong and she knows she is supposed to go to BYU-IDaho. It was so awesome and I am so excited for her and her new journey in life. She has gone out with us to teach a lot this week. Speaking of that.. We are so busy!! We have so many teaching appointments!! We have a list of 500 less actives we are working with and there have been so many reactivated this month. We also have been getting investigators and we have a baptism this weekend. Sarah who we started teaching but is in the mid-single adult ward now. She is incredible. Wow I could keep going on forever but we have to go! Just know that I love you all so much!! I am so thankful for the things that I am able to learn every day.

My companion is doing great! She is super funny. Oh and at the Battalion Brother Parry came and I was able to give that tour and on the same tour was a guy named Brady Allred I think that knew the Watson's from Tennessee!! It was so fun to talk with him about some of my closest friends and it was cool it was the same tour because Mark Parry served in Nashville and knows the Watsons. Wow Miracles! I love being a missionary! I cannot even believe how fast time is going!!!!!!!! Keep me updated on everything and know I love you all and pray for you all so so much! When we stand up for what we believe in and are persecuted for Jesus Christ's name we are promised so many blessings. All of you are examples of that. Thank you!!

Love you so much!!

sister McKee;)

Week #16: San Diego

Family!

Wow, Thank to everyone for letting me know about the Parrish family. What an incredible family, the Lord is really trusting them with this trial in their life right now. It is sometimes hard to accept the will of God and see an eternal perspective. One of my favorite analogies is from Elder Ballard's book , "Our Search for Happiness" It talks about imagining a rope across space and you cannot see either end but  you look and see a knot holding the rope together. This knot is symbolic of earth-life and the rope is before and after this life. Our earth life is so small, but so significant and I know that the Lord is so proud of Bill, Ross, Jensen, Ean, Keegan and Liam. And not only them but the whole Parrish family. Because they have chosen to make the right choices here on the small earth life. It is devastating, so so devastating and it is amazing to know that we get to rely on the atonement during times like this. Jensen is one of my closest friends and examples to me, she is so strong and has such a powerful testimony. She helped me through so much when we were at BYU-Idaho together. I will keep praying for this sweet family. I love them dearly! Please tell them I love them all so much and as dad says to expect the miracle:)

This week has been a great week. Candice's baptism was on Sunday. It was a sweet baptism. Two members from the branch spoke and Sister Sanchez and I sang a song that her grandfather wrote. It was a spiritual baptism. We had over 40 people in attendance. Her whole family came and loved it! She was so shocked they came and it was a great surprise! She will be getting confirmed this Sunday! Well I am staying in Santee YSA and I am so happy!! I have a new companion Sister Owens!! She just got here last week and is loving it! She is so funny and we have a good time. She is a hard worker! She is from Palmer, Alaska! She has a super funny personality we love working together! Sister Sanchez went full proselyting so she is not at the battalion anymore for 2 transfers! It is weird to not see her! I took a tour with a guy from Inkom and his wife from Pocatello, they were awesome and he said he went to school with Aunt Margaret. His name was Craig Monson. Super nice guy. We said goodbye to one of our senior couples the Afflecks from Sandy, UT  and the Rasmussens just came in. They are staying in Patty's home here in San Diego. Super funny! Sister Baker from Pocatello is here and we are having a great time catching up. She is being trained by a great sister here Sister Dunaway who I love so much.

I cannot believe Angelee leaves this week!! Woah!! She will be awesome!! Sounds like her talk went well, holy moly she is so popular!!!! So many people came to see her talk that is awesome. She is the best! Koltin emailed me this week and he sounds great! It is so fun to know that tomorrow 5 of us will be out! :) I love it! Sounds like Brock and Tyler did a great job teaching the Mission Prep class, they are some great guys! Tell them hello from me! There are so many miracles that come from being a missionary. I have learned so much and I am so thankful to be a missionary especially at this exact time. Tell Sierra Thank you for my Valentine Package if you see her and Mom thank you for the package!! I haven't been able to open it yet, but I am excited:) I love this gospel and I know it is true. I love the amazing precious time I have here on my mission. Time is going by way too fast and  we are working hard here. Please let me know if I can do anything! I think that I am going to need to buy a GPS here pretty soon. I think I have enough to buy one, but I would have no Idea where to go for one. Any suggestions?! I Love you all so much!! Thank you for your love and support!

Love,

Sister McKee:)

Week #15: Transfers!

Hello My amazing family:)

Happy Birthday to TREY!!!!!!!! WAHOO I love birthdays and I love being from a big family so we can celebrate them often!!  I am officially done with my 12 week training which is insane. I cannot believe it is already a new transfer. We just got our transfer calls and Sister Sanchez will be leaving the Battalion and going Full Proselyting tomorrow and I will be staying in Santee and training a new sister starting tomorrow. It is crazy!!! I have so many different emotions, but I know that the Lord will guide me and that as I am following the spirit that I can do it through Him. It is just insane! Very unexpected. Sister Sanchez and I have had such an amazing transfer and have seen so many miracles. I will miss her while she leaves the Battalion, but we know that it is the Lord's will for us. It has been a weird week and a great week! Candice is on fire! She is getting baptized on Sunday and she is just thrilled. She has such a strong testimony of the gospel and she has been helping us meet with Less Actives and bring them back to church. She is so excited for her baptism! Sister Sanchez might not be able to attend because she is leaving so we are very sad about that, however the most important thing is that this day is happening for her and what an amazing day it is. This will affect her whole life ahead of her and she has such a confirmation this is true. She asked us to sing for her baptism, we sang last week in sacrament meeting and she wants us to either sing that same song or one that her grandfather wrote before he passed away. Miracles are happening. We had another week of miracles because we dropped about 4 people and wow that almost takes more faith then adding someone. That is so hard, but we know that we are being blessed for that decision. In Jacob 5 it talks about Pruning and Grafting the tree in order to have good fruit and that is exactly what we are doing. I had another weird experience yesterday. I was at the Mormon Battalion and there was a guy sitting alone on the front lobby area. I went to talk to him and he automatically started yelling and going off at me about how I had been deceived my whole life and over and over again yelling things that I never want to repeat. It felt like I was talking to Satan through him, and I hated it. I calmly told him I would love to talk about it later and he grabbed my hand and said "Listen to me stop believing what you believe....." and so much more. I invited him to keep praying and to have a good day. I felt so stupid after that and I went back to get one of the senior elders to help and burst into tears, it was hard! I had never felt like that before. I was so shaky the rest of the night. However, I have been thinking about that experience a lot today and I feel so grateful that no matter what I know what I know and I will always stand behind the truth.  I love this gospel and I know it is true and I know that even if I were the only person on the earth who believed it that I would still know. I hope that all of you know that for yourself and have the faith to do what is right no matter what. I know the church is true and we are extremely blessed. Sister Salinas went home today! It was so sad, I attached some pictures of us this morning
( It was right after working out so I look pretty great;) )and then me with all of my companions so far! I love them all. I have been blessed with incredible companions. Angelee!!! You leave next week!!! Holy Moly Guacamole!! You are going to be stellar, wow whoever gets to be your companion is so blessed. I would love to be your companion!! How is Koltin doing?! Is he liking the mission? Tell him to email me! Also, the sister that went home last transfer that I want Elder Brown to take on a date came back to visit this week and she said that she wants to go on this date! So, will one of you tell elder brown to email me please? Thank you so much!!!:) I love being a missionary. I will let you know who I am training next week! I already know she is awesome. I can feel it! The church is so true!! Let me know what I can do to help you all! Sounds like the institute class has been good mom and dad!! They are so lucky you are their teachers:) I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!

Love,

sister kylie mckee:)
